Nosce te ipsum in english

Know thyself also known by the Latin translation, "Nosce Te Ipsum" is aGreek aphorism which according to tradition would be registered at the entrance of the Delphic Oracle in ancient Greece.

"O man, know thyself and know the gods and the universe.”
Enrollment in the oracle of Delphi, attributed to the Seven Sages.

It is a cornerstone of the philosophy of Socrates and his method, maieutic. The oracle of the temple would have proclaimed Socrates the wisest manof Greece, to which Socrates replied with the famous phrase: "I only knowthat I know nothing."

The self-reflection, expressed in Nosce Te Ipsum - "Know thyself" - puts theman in search of universal truths that are the way to the practice of goodness and virtue.

In psychology we can take into account the "know thyself" as the goal to be achieved during the psychotherapeutic process, regardless of theoretical approach, and the great difficulty of most people and an extremely important factor related to quality people's lives.
